Skin Tightening Review
Skin tightening is a unique option for facial and body rejuvenation that produces dramatic results. Skin tightening effectively reduces the appearance of loose skin or fine and intermediate wrinkles for a smoother and more youthful appearance. Sometimes, surgical correction (face lift, tummy tuck etc) is the only option. However, most of the time, laxity of the skin is mild or moderate, and a less invasive treatment can achieve the desire results.

Who can benefit from skin tightening?
People who start noticing loose skin in their cheeks, neck, chest, abdomen, buttocks, legs, and arms as a result of aging or weight loss could consider skin tightening treatment. Laser skin tightening is appropriate for men and women of all skin types and skin tones who wish to achieve dramatic results without painful surgery and lengthy recovery.
Skin tightening expected results
Skin type, body area, and downtime play a role in the outcome. Also, various laser technologies provide different degrees of skin tightening. In general, the more aggressive the treatment the more noticeable the results are.
CO2 laser treatment is the most aggressive approach and is usually used when skin tightening and skin rejuvenation are desired. It delivers the most drastic results. It is effective for the treatment of the face, and neck in fair and Asian skin.
A newer technology that is based on the CO2 laser is fractionated CO2 laser (DeepFX). It delivers similar results for skin tightening with greatly reduced downtime. In addition, it treats effectively other body areas such as the chest and the lax abdomen after pregnancy.
Titan laser can treat all body parts. In comparison to CO2 laser treatments, the downtime is much shorter but it requires multiple treatments to achieve substantial results. Results can last up to 2 years and additional treatment can follow to maintain the desired look.
Nd:YAG, Thermage ( radiofrequency), ReFirme are also used for tightening lose skin. These products use lower energy levels to deliver reduced patient discomfort. Consequently, multiple treatments are required to achieve significant results.
Skin tightening down time
If the 7-14 day-downtime of the conventional CO2 laser is unacceptable, fractionated CO2 with a downtime of 3-6 days may be used with minimal sacrifice of results.
Nd:YAG, Titan, Thermage do not harm the surface of the skin. Therefore, those treatments do not involve downtime. However, allocating time for multiple treatments should be considered.
Skin tightening pricing
Skin tightening cost depends on the desired results (number of treatments) and the size of the treated area and can vary between $500 to $7000.
CO2 laser or fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing require usually a single treatment with an average cost of $3000.
Thermage and Titan treatment cost structure is similar. A single session usually costs around $1500. As two to three treatments are usually needed, a patient should expect an average cost of around $4000.

Thermage Skin Tightening Process Procedure
The first step in this tightening procedure is to apply a cooling spray to the surface of the skin to protect it from the heat. A thermocool wand is then used to heat up the collagen within the skin. The lower layers of the skin are affected by the heat, and instantly begin to tighten.
The whole thermage process takes about 15 minutes to an hour depending on how large of an area you are treating. There is no pain, but you do experience several periods of heating sensations on the skin. The cooling spray is used throughout the entire process to ensure that your skin is protected against the heated wand.
Side Effects and Recovery Time
It is important to mention that only one percent of the patients who undergo Thermage skin tightening procedures will experience any side effects at all. However, the side effects that are experienced include redness, swelling, blisters, and bumps, which can last up to 10 days.
The recovery time for all patients undergoing the process is a few days. Redness like that of sunburn is usually seen for up to a few days, but patients are allowed to go back to their regular activities right away.
The Cost of Thermage
The cost involved with this skin tightening procedure is high. Since the results are immediate, and will stay in place for years to come, the cost is justified by many people. If you want a procedure that will be sure to get rid of your wrinkles, then the $1000-$5000 price tag on this process may not seem so high.
Thermage skin tightening procedures are now being done all over the world as a way to treat wrinkles and sagging without surgery. If you want a virtually risk free way to get an immediate face lift, then this unique procedure might be right for you.

Face Lift Cost
Accept it; aging is a natural part of life. Unfortunately, it’s so hard to look at yourself in the mirror every morning and see your face growing older. This desire to avoid aging is why the cosmetic surgery industry is one of the most lucrative in the US; the cosmetic surgery procedures market is expected to reach an estimated $15 billion by 2012. The most popular of these procedures is undoubtedly rhytidectomy, more popularly known as a face lift. A face lift is a medical procedure performed to lessen the visible signs of aging in the face and neck.

The problem with having a face lift is that it come with many drawbacks. One of the most serious of these is the expense of having the procedure. The average face lift cost is around $6,000 to $25,000 when all the costs, including surgeon’s and anesthesiologist’s fees, hospital fees and other costs are totaled; for this procedure, surgeons charge around $5,000 to $6,000. If a neck lift is included in the procedure, another $4,000 to $8,000 may be added.
The mean face lift cost may also vary depending on the type of technique used. The most expensive procedure is the standard face lift, which costs an average of $7,000 and is performed on the bottom half of the face to tighten the jaw, eliminate jowls and remove excess skin from the neck; a mid face lift which targets the areas in the middle of the face, particularly the eyes, nose and corners of the mouth, and costs an average of $7,000; the mini facelift which targets particular areas such as the neck and nose folds, and goes for an average of $5,000; and the thread face lift, which treats early signs of aging such as minor facial sagging, for $4,000. With these prices, coupled with the risk of complications, it is no wonder that many are unwilling to bear the cost of the procedure.
The risks associated with face lifts include nerve injury (which may be temporary); problems with healing (usually common among patients with smoking habits); scarring, which is inevitable but which usually fades after a few months; skin or hair loss or skin discoloration (which happen rarely) and numbness or tingling around the areas where incisions were made. Men may also find it necessary to shave in areas such as the back of the neck or ears where beard-growing skin may have been moved.
More general post-operative complications common to all cosmetic surgeries include nausea and general sickness as a reaction to the anesthesia and medications prescribed post-procedure; the risk of developing a hematoma, or localized swelling, if there is bleeding under the skin (another operation may be necessary); and infection, for which the patient may need to take antibiotics. Thus, the face lift cost goes beyond the financial to include side effects that range from the merely inconvenient to the life threatening. So the next time you look in the mirror and see your mother or father looking back at you, and you’re considering cosmetic surgery, you should ask yourself, Is it worth it?
